Enzo Maresca has broken the Premier League record for the most consecutive wins at the start of a managerial reign, guiding Manchester City to a perfect seven-game opening to the 2026/27 season.

Saturday's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium sealed the record, with Maresca becoming the first manager in Premier League history to win his first seven league games in charge of a club.

The Italian surpassed Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who each won their first six league games with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Only Chelsea in 2005/06 and Liverpool in 2019/20 have enjoyed longer winning runs to open a Premier League campaign, with nine and eight straight victories respectively.

Maresca's side has scored 19 goals and conceded just six across those seven league matches, accumulating 21 points to sit six points clear at the top of the early-season table.

City also won their opening fixtures in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, defeating Porto and Norwich City respectively, following an opening-day Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in August.

Guardiola's six straight league wins at the start of his City tenure had stood as the club's previous best run. Joe Mercer went unbeaten in his first seven league games in 1965, but recorded only three wins alongside four draws.
