Roberto De Zerbi speaks after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Leeds, illustrating his criticism of the team’s mentality and effort.

Tottenham lost 1-0 at Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday, with Noah Okafor scoring the winner in the 74th minute. Leeds recorded their 16th attempt on goal after the first half ended level, with three attempts each.

Spurs had a late chance to equalise in the 90th minute, when Jan Paul van Hecke connected with Andy Robertson's free-kick. James Trafford stretched to his left to tip the effort around the post.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi was disappointed with the result. The defeat came after three successive wins and four matches unbeaten. “First half, we played well, better than Leeds,” he said. “We created two, three chances to score.”

De Zerbi said the second half was a different story. “In the second half, we didn't show what we showed in the Chelsea game and the other games. I don't want to repeat, but now the mental aspect is the most important part in football.”

“I didn't see the same personality, I didn't see the same courage, the same character, the same attitude. It's a journey, we have to improve for sure, but football is like an exam every day,” he added.

Tottenham are 10th in the table with 12 points from 10 matches.
