Liverpool FC's sustainability strategy, The Red Way, has been honoured with the Sustainable Game Award at this year's Global Football Industry Awards.

The awards recognise individuals, teams and organisations across the sector who advance the sport off the pitch. At the ceremony, the club was celebrated for delivering meaningful environmental and social progress, driven by conscious operational decision-making and community engagement.

Since its official launch in 2021, The Red Way has represented the club's ongoing commitment to building a better future for people, planet and communities. Through various initiatives and campaigns, strengthened by supporter and partner participation, the strategy has achieved significant environmental progress across the club.

Despite a growing operational footprint, the club has achieved a 13 per cent reduction in emissions against its 2019-20 baseline, and powers 96 per cent of operations through clean energy.

Fans have also increasingly embraced the strategy. On matchdays, supporters have engaged strongly with Anfield's reusables project, responsibly disposing of their waste and resulting in more than 310,000 single-use items avoiding going to landfill each season.

Surplus matchday food is also redistributed, providing 1,200 meals each week to local communities and demonstrating how environmental and social responsibility can go hand in hand.

Rishi Jain, director of impact and supporter engagement at Liverpool FC, said: "We're extremely proud to receive this award and be recognised as a global sustainability leader in our industry.

"From our stadium to our stores, the AXA Training Centre to our community allotments, we're always working to find opportunities where responsible change can be made throughout the club.

"We have strong ambitions across all areas of The Red Way, and while our work is never truly finished, winning this award is another extremely encouraging sign that we're headed in the right direction.

"I'm grateful for continued commitments from the colleagues, fans and partners joining us on this journey, and look forward to further pursuing our mission of building a better future for our people, our planet and our communities."
