Maresca: Brighton defeat feels similar to Villa loss

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca says the 1-0 defeat to Brighton feels like the Aston Villa loss, again undone by defensive errors.

Manchester City were beaten 1-0 by Brighton despite creating plenty of chances, and were again undone by a defensive mistake.

The loss left the team feeling the same way as the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, which ended its 100% start to the Premier League campaign. Boss Enzo Maresca said the mood was familiar. "It’s very similar feeling than we had after Aston Villa game," said Maresca.

"Unfortunately, we created enough to get some points but we didn’t score. In this moment, it’s like this. We did enough to deserve something but we need to move on and try to win games."

On the defensive errors, Maresca said: "In the last two or three games it’s happened many times [defensive lapses] but we need to analyse how to do better and move on." City have scored 20 goals in nine league matches this season, and Maresca pointed to that output.

"In this moment, we are second in terms of goals scored in the Premier League so that means we are scoring. [But] we are conceding silly goals and we can avoid that. Hopefully we can avoid that in the next game."
