Manchester City will mark Remembrance across its men's, women's and Academy teams over the coming weeks, honouring the Armed Forces in several ways, starting with Saturday's men's first-team fixture against Brighton.
Before kick-off, 11 military veterans from City in the Community's programme will complete a 40-kilometre triathlon challenge, building on the success of their recent fundraising efforts. The veterans will run 40k, row 40k and cycle 40k, then join the stadium's pre-match Remembrance ceremony alongside supporters, players and staff.
The challenge aims to raise £1,986, marking City in the Community's 40th anniversary while supporting Remembrance. Funds raised will support the charity's ongoing work across local communities, promoting healthier lives through football. Donations can be made through the club's website.
On the pitch, manager Enzo Maresca will lay a wreath, followed by the playing of the Last Post. The Women's Super League fixture against West Ham on 7 November will follow a similar tribute, with manager Andrée Jeglertz laying a wreath ahead of the match.
Both occasions will be marked by a minute's silence, as supporters, players and staff pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to recognise the service of all who have served in the Armed Forces.
For all league matches during the Remembrance period, men's and women's first-team players will wear a poppy on their shirts. The shirts worn in these fixtures will then be donated and auctioned via MatchWornShirt, with proceeds supporting the Royal British Legion, which provides lifelong support to serving and former members of the Armed Forces community and their families.
The Academy teams will also mark the period. Earlier in the month, the Under-12s hosted Manchester United at the City Football Academy for the annual Christmas Truce fixture, held in place of the clubs' traditional Remembrance match and reflecting the values of respect and unity at the heart of remembrance.
