Chelsea centre-back Maxence Lacroix will not return before the international break, manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed ahead of the clash with Manchester United. Lacroix came off with a hamstring issue during Wednesday’s game at Anfield.
Moises Caicedo is available despite coming off in the second half against Liverpool. Asked about the Ecuadorian, Alonso said: ‘No issue’, adding: ‘He is ok for tomorrow.’
On Lacroix, Alonso said: ‘Max picked up an injury and we expect that he will not be ready before the international break,’ the Blues manager explained in his pre-match press conference. ‘So he will be a few weeks out.’
Jorrel Hato will be absent against United, while Pep Chavarria is in contention after missing the last three matches.
Chelsea’s opening eight top-flight fixtures have yielded 13 points, leaving them fifth in the early-season table. United sit 16th and have won just once in the league this season.
Aaron Anselmino, who has yet to feature this season, is not yet available. Alonso said he needs a few weeks to reach full fitness after a series of injuries.
Emi Martinez has been sidelined since the victory at Everton, after which he required jaw surgery following a clash with Jarrad Branthwaite. Alonso said: ‘Yes, there is a chance,’ and that the goalkeeper could be available before the international break.
