Tottenham defender Archie Gray says the club's recent training camp in Marbella has helped the squad play as a closer unit, as the team races to three consecutive Premier League wins over Coventry City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
In a five-question interview with the club, Gray said the side has improved over the last couple of weeks. "It's a really important time for us. I think we've improved so much over the last couple of weeks. I think we're more of a team, more together. We're just performing better because we work for each other on the pitch," he said.
Asked where the togetherness stems from, Gray pointed to the trip to Spain. "The Marbella trip would have obviously helped, just getting to know each other better and being like almost brothers on the pitch. That's the thing the gaffer speaks about all the time and that's what we've been trying to do," he said.
Gray opened the scoring in a 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace, a side reduced to 10 men after 13 minutes, with Jan Paul van Hecke also on target as Tottenham recorded 34 efforts at goal. Gray said the win was especially satisfying given the difficulty of breaking down a side defending deeper. "It's just really important to get three wins on the bounce. It hasn't happened for quite a long time," he said.
On his goal celebration, Gray said he had not planned one. "I just put my finger up and ran off!" he said, adding that he had asked teammate Mateus Fernandes what he should do and received no clear answer.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi took the players to Marbella after the draw at Old Trafford on 10 October, saying the trip was aimed at building a stronger group.
