Defender Gabriel marked his 200th Premier League appearance by heading Arsenal to a 2-0 victory over Everton, moving the club level at the top of the table after eight games.

Ezri Konsa opened the scoring in the first half with his first goal for Arsenal. Gabriel converted Ben White's cross midway through the second half to wrap up the points, scoring his 21st top-flight goal for the club and his 14th headed strike — a tally only Olivier Giroud has surpassed for Arsenal in Premier League history.

“I feel really good, it was a nice day for me and to make my 200th Premier League appearance in this shirt is a pleasure,” Gabriel said after the match. “I'm really happy, and thank you to the fans for the love, but the most important thing today was the three points.”

Gabriel was keen to stress his defensive priorities alongside the milestone. “I'm always going to be in the box, I want to score, but I also want to be the best in defending the box. Today it happened and I'm really happy to score my first goal of the season.”

The win was Arsenal's fifth clean sheet in eight league games. It also marked the first time two Arsenal centre-backs had scored in the same league match since February 2024, when Gabriel and William Saliba netted against West Ham.

“[Ezri and I] just spoke about it in the dressing room,” Gabriel said. “We work so hard every day. Today it happened, the two centre-backs scored, so we are really happy. He's a top guy; we've known his quality since he arrived at Arsenal.”

Arsenal have seven wins from their opening eight fixtures and are level on 21 points at the top of the Premier League. They next travel to Fleetwood Town for a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie on Tuesday.
