Five current Liverpool players have responded to their inclusion in the club's official Greatest 100 ranking, describing the recognition as a significant honour.
A large-scale poll involving supporters, former players, journalists and a club panel was conducted earlier this year to determine the top 100 men's players in Liverpool's history. The results were published across club channels during the summer and have since been compiled into a hardback book.
Of the current squad, Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk all featured in the countdown.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker paid tribute to the club's broader history. "Being part of the history of this club is a pleasure," he said. "A guy from far away, from Novo Hamburgo, being in this list is some achievement."
Defender Joe Gomez admitted the inclusion came as a surprise. "I'll be honest, it was a bit of a shock. But a massive, massive honour. I don't take it for granted. It's something I'll show my kids one day."
Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who ranked 100th, kept his reaction brief. "Just in there, hey! 100. A big club like Liverpool, the history, full of players – it's good to be here."
Teammate Dominik Szoboszlai noted his placing relative to Mac Allister. "Do you know what feels good in the book? That I'm in front of Macca!"
Virgil van Dijk ranked eighth overall, just behind former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen. "Amazing. Eighth on the list of Liverpool's Greatest. It's not bad, hey? Just behind the big legend, Alan Hansen. I'll take that – very proud, happy."
