Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has called on Mathys Tel to keep pushing himself after the young France forward scored a stunning solo goal to seal a 2-0 victory at Chelsea on Saturday.
Tel won possession in his own half and drove 50 yards down the left, getting past Josh Acheampong before side-stepping Maxence Lacroix and finishing low into the net with three minutes remaining.
"He has to push, to push, to push, to keep going, because he's a talent," De Zerbi said. "He has to clean the last 30 metres, the last decision, the last pass, the shot. He has an unbelievable shot."
De Zerbi expressed strong personal belief in the 20-year-old, adding: "I believe in Mathys, maybe more than he believes in himself."
The Tottenham head coach also pointed to the broader trajectory of the club. "I think the future of this club can be important if we keep this mentality, these behaviours," he said.
Tel's goal was his first of the season in six appearances. The win lifted Tottenham, who sit 12th in the Premier League with nine points from eight games, to back-to-back league victories.
