Morgan Rogers wants to become more clinical in front of goal, and the Chelsea forward says he is working on finishing the simpler chances. The England international spoke after his solo effort helped the Blues beat Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.
Rogers broke the deadlock early in the second half. Collecting Romeo Lavia's pass in midfield, he drove towards the visitors' penalty area, glided past two challenges and dinked the ball over Senne Lammens.
Rogers has six goals and four assists in all competitions this season. “I think being more clinical in front of goal, being more ruthless in and around the box, is something that previously I was a bit disappointed in myself because I'd score a nice goal every once in a while, but I wouldn't score the easy goals. I'm trying to work on that here.”
Chelsea are fourth in the table after nine league matches. Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot, securing a welcome win after recent setbacks against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Rogers said the result mattered more to him than the quality of his finish. “It was nice to see it go in the back of the net at an important time in the game,” he added. “So that's the most important thing for me, that I can make a difference to the game and ultimately we go on and win the game because of it, so I'm happy.”
Rogers spent two years at Aston Villa before joining Chelsea. “I'm loving it. It's a different challenge, a new challenge, and I'm really enjoying playing with these wonderful quality players.”
