Chelsea returned to winning ways with a commanding 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro each scoring twice and Morgan Rogers adding the other.
Henderson made an immediate impact on his home Chelsea debut, firing a 20-yard shot in off the post inside two minutes after being set up by Cole Palmer. Sixty seconds later Rogers curled home a Henderson pass to give Chelsea a two-goal lead inside three minutes — the earliest they had ever led by two in a Premier League match.
Joao Pedro extended the advantage within a minute of the second half, drilling home after Pedro Neto's work on the byline. Bournemouth pulled one back when Evanilson's deflected effort crept in off his own foot following a corner scramble, but Chelsea restored their three-goal cushion in the 67th minute as Pep Chavarria's low cross allowed Pedro to side-foot home his second.
Henderson completed his brace in the 70th minute, whipping a free kick from 25 yards over the wall and beyond Djordje Petrovic to make it five.
Marcelo Alonso had made three changes from the previous outing at Brentford: Josh Acheampong replaced Wesley Fofana in defence, Moises Caicedo started in midfield for the first time this season in place of Valentin Barco, and Joao Pedro came in for Danny Welbeck.
Emiliano Martinez was called upon to keep the scoreline respectable, producing a smart reaction save to deny Rayan one-on-one before stopping Ryan Christie's rebound, and later getting down to turn away an Antonio Silva header.
Caicedo and Joao Pedro were substituted at 72 minutes after being managed carefully through the international break, with Romeo Lavia and debutant Marco Palestra — a summer signing returning from injury — coming on. Estevao Willian, Welbeck and Malo Gusto were also introduced late on as the result was beyond doubt.
Chelsea next travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Everton, with kick-off at 12.30pm.
