Liverpool have warned supporters to plan their journeys carefully ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture against Manchester City at Anfield, with major transport disruptions in effect.
Merseyrail works beginning this Sunday will run for a month, from October 11 through to November 6, and will significantly affect rail travel across several lines.
The Northern Line between Hunts Cross and Liverpool city centre will be closed entirely for the duration of the works. Replacement bus services are available for customers travelling from Hunts Cross to Sandhills, where they can connect with the Soccerbus. Alternatively, local bus services from Liverpool city centre can be used to reach Anfield directly.
Northern Line trains will only operate between Sandhills and Southport, Ormskirk or Headbolt Lane. Wirral Line services will not stop at Moorfields, Lime Street or Liverpool Central, terminating instead at James Street, from where supporters can walk or take local buses to connecting transport links.
A separate Liverpool City Council highways improvement scheme on Walton Breck Road will also affect travel by car and on foot, with works continuing until March 2027. A single-lane carriageway closure is in place, with traffic running in one direction only, from Oakfield Road towards the city centre.
Matchday closures on Walton Breck Road will now begin two hours before kick-off and end one hour after the final whistle. After the match, fans in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand will only be permitted to exit by turning left onto Anfield Road, with no access to Walton Breck Road. The taxi rank near the Paisley Gates will be temporarily relocated to Venmore Street.
Matchday shuttle buses offering park-and-ride options are available, with express services running from Liverpool city centre and Bootle to and from Anfield.
